Listen to this article:A man who was allegedly in possession of a knife at a Buzz Bingo hall in Warrington, near Manchester, is accused of causing more than £8,000 of damage to gambling machines at the venue in the Cockhedge Centre.
Constantin Lupo, a 36-year-old from Oxford, has been charged in connection with the incident of possessing a knife in a public place, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage. It is alleged that on July 11, Lupo came to the Buzz Bingo Warrington venue carrying a folding pocket knife that was longer than three inches without good reason or lawful authority. He also allegedly assaulted a man on the same day and caused actual bodily harm.
Finally, it is alleged that Lupo caused a total of £8,734.08 of damage to five gambling machines at the Buzz Bingo club. The suspect has made a first appearance at Warrington Magistrates’ Court and the case is ongoing.
This is the second time that the Buzz Bingo hall in Warrington has made headlines. The first was back in 2022 and it was for much happier reasons.
In July 2022, James Forester decided to pay a visit to the bingo hall “on a whim” after Googling “fun things to do in the area” when he found himself with a rare night away from his children. He became a member and promptly won a massive £150,000 jackpot.
At first, Forester thought that he had won £50,000, which he was thrilled with. However, he couldn’t believe his luck when staff informed him that he had actually won £150,000. At the time, he said that he would use the winnings to buy a new home and establish his own business.
Speaking about the win, Kevin Carrigan, general manager at Buzz Bingo Warrington, said:
“We couldn’t be happier for our lucky new member and their fantastic win. When we told him the amount he’d be taking home, his face just said it all. That Google search certainly paid off! Everyone was cheering from their seats – it was such an exciting moment.”
The chief retail officer at Buzz Bingo, Peter Brigden, added:
“We’re delighted to see a new member win the £150,000 National Game jackpot at Buzz Bingo Warrington. The atmosphere in the club when there’s a win is always incredible, but when it’s a jackpot like this one, it’s absolutely electric! And the fact they’d only joined that day – wow! What a surprise that must’ve been. It just proves that it can happen to anyone at any time! It’s great to celebrate such a fantastic win and have the rest of the bingo community celebrate that too!”
