Listen to this article:A Leeds-based bingo player is likely still celebrating after starting off 2025 by winning a £50,000 jackpot playing at Mecca Bingo’s Leeds Mayfair club.
The player has chosen to remain anonymous, but he is known to be a regular player and has been visiting the club on New York Street for the past six years. He won the jackpot while sitting in his regular lucky seat and playing in the National Bingo Game.
Recently, Mecca Bingo seems to have been on a generous streak with its players. We previously shared the story of the Mecca Big Bonus Player who landed a £81K jackpot in Drumchapel, and now another life-changing win has taken place in Leeds.
The £50,000 jackpot is won by marking all the numbers on the ticket and calling “house” within the first 16 numbers called in the game. In addition to the National Bingo Game jackpot, he also won the local full house prize and was reportedly unaware of the size of his win when it happened.
Speaking after the win, he said:
“When I hit the claim button and shouted ‘House!’ I thought I had just won the local prize. When someone told me how much I had actually won, I just couldn’t believe it! I was shaking with disbelief. I’ve been playing for years but never won anything big – I play for fun and to make friends, so this win is just incredible. The atmosphere in the club was amazing, with everyone cheering and congratulating me.’
“I was in such a state of shock that I just carried on playing the next game! It’s starting to sink in now, but I’m still undecided about what to do with the money – maybe a holiday, though I’m not sure where yet.”
It has been a strong start to the year for the National Bingo Game with several jackpot winners throughout January playing at clubs across the UK.
The first win came on 2 January at the Mecca Bingo club in Wakefield and it was followed the next day by a win at the Mecca Bingo club in Chesterfield. There was then a win on 6 January at the Club 3000 bingo hall in Cardiff, before the lucky player in Leeds claimed his prize on 9 January.
There were two winners on 17 January at Mecca Bingo Clubs in Luton and Croydon before a win at the Club 2000 bingo venue on 18 January in Bedford. Next, there were two winners on 19 January, one at the Mecca Bingo Southend club and the other at the Buzz Bingo Cricklewood club.
