The player, who has asked to remain anonymous, is known to be a regular at the club, and they won the life-changing prize on December 22, ensuring they had a Christmas period they will never forget.
The lucky bingo fan was playing Mecca’s Big Bonus game, which was only introduced around a year or so ago. It takes place multiple times a day at Mecca’s clubs across the nation and gives players the chance to win a jackpot that just keeps on growing until it is won. The winner reportedly almost missed the chance to take part in the game, as they were busy searching for spare change until just before it began. However, it seems that it was their lucky day, as they took home the second-largest Big Bonus jackpot ever won at Mecca.
Following the win, Alistair Steel, the general manager at Mecca Bingo Drumchapel, said:
“With the Big Bonus jackpot growing over the past few weeks, the atmosphere in the club was incredible when the win took place. The winner was in complete shock and couldn’t believe it. The club atmosphere was electric, especially with it happening just a few days before Christmas. Usually when someone wins, there’s a celebration which settles before the next game. But this time, the cheering just kept going. The feel-good factor was at an all-time high, and that’s why we’re so grateful to share moments like these with our amazing community at Mecca Drumchapel.
Remarkably, a year ago, at the same time, another player won an incredible £60,000 jackpot on the Big Bonus game at Mecca Drumchapel. Fast forward 12 months, and here we are again with another huge win. “
Despite Alistair Steel’s comment, it seems that the prior Big Bonus win at the Mecca Drumchapel venue took place in June 2023. However, this doesn’t make it any less remarkable, especially as it was only the second time the jackpot had ever been won.
That winner also chose to remain anonymous, but it is known to have been a local woman who was playing on an electronic tablet. She was said to be a well-known regular player at the club who had played there every week since it first opened.
Speaking at the time, Laura Bell, who was the duty manager at the club on the night of the big win, said:
“Everyone in the club froze when Drumchapel appeared on the monitor, and we realised that someone in the room had won. Then the customer ran over with her tablet, she was shaking when she showed me the screen with the £60,000 win! Everyone started whooping and clapping. Staff came out to congratulate the winner and customers were hugging her. We’re just overjoyed for her.”
