Bongo’s Bingo, which advertises itself as “The Bingo Rave Phenomenon”, has announced a series of special country music themed bingo shows for this May. The country shows will be taking place in a number of cities across the UK:
Lovers of bingo and country music will be able to enjoy anthems from Shania Twain and Dolly Parton, together with hits from country stars such as Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton. Each event will be a celebration of country music culture and, of course, offer players the chance to win themed prizes, including one for the best costume.
Speaking about the Glasgow event, Co-founder of Bongo’s Bingo, Jonny Bongo, said:
“We love a theme at Bongo’s Bingo and the Country Specials have really got people talking. It’s something we’ve always wanted to do and the reaction has been class. There are so many absolute belter classic anthems to blast out and we know how well this show is going to go down in Glasgow at SWG3 as part of the big bank holiday celebrations with all of May’s shows to choose from.”
As always, the night promises bingo, rave, cheesy singalongs, dance-offs and amazing prizes. Doors will open at 6 pm with the show beginning at 7:30 pm. Unfortunately, tickets for all four of the country specials are sold out. However, there are plenty more Bongo’s Bingo events taking place in each city and many more across the country throughout the month.
We recently highlighted another Bingo Bongo event at Hull’s Asylum in April, underscoring their status as one of the most active bingo event organizers across the UK.
Jonny Bongo has crowned himself “The OG. The Godfather. The King of the Bingo.” Born in Belfast, he became well-known in Liverpool during the early 2010s thanks to his Monday Night Quiz at The Shipping Forecast. The quiz was characterised by silly questions, insane challenges, crowd-pleasing music and it soon became Liverpool sensation attracting huge crowds each week.
After running the quiz for three years, Jonny Bongo, also known as Jonny Lacey, went in search of something new. Together with his friend Joshua Burke, he came up with the idea of breathing new life into the game of bingo, which led to the first Bingo Bingo event in Liverpool on April 2nd, 2015. Since then, Jonny has crafted Bongo’s Bingo into a sensation that has run events around the world, including in Australia, Dubai, Ibiza, Amsterdam and more.
Jonny’s success with Bongo’s Bingo has made him into somewhat of a local celebrity in Liverpool, where he makes regular appearances on local radio stations such as Capital FM, as well as appearances on television on shows such as The One Show, The Jonathan Ross Show, Granada Reports and BBC Inside Out.
As the company’s public face, Jonny’s shows are in high demand and normally sell out months in advance. Therefore, it is always worth keeping an eye out for his appearances and booking tickets as soon as they become available.
In addition to Jonny, there are a further seven Bongo’s Bingo hosts, all of them experts at providing a memorable experience.
For example, Mick Ledwich, also known as Micky Pickles, is a graduate of LIPA University and has worked as an acting teacher and instructor. He is also a well-known Liverpool DJ and singer. Also on the team is Rich Furness. Prior to joining the Bongo’s Bingo team, Furness worked as a DJ for close to two decades and has been a keen raver since his early teenage years. This saw him employed for ten years at Chibuku Shake Shake and he has played at events and festivals, including Fabric, Warehouse Project, Parklife, Creamfields and Hideout Festival.
The first southern host to join Bongo’s Bingo was Matty Powers. Based in Brighton, Powers was discovered by Bongo’s Bingo when he was hosting the ‘Dance Off’ crew at the Snowbombing Festival in 2017. He is now the flagship host for the south of the UK and is a firm favourite with players at London’s Clapham Grand.
Joining them are Rich Kelly, Graham McKee, Jimmy Sweets, and Chris Mac, each one a huge talent capable of whipping the crowd into a frenzy as they enjoy a bingo experience like no other.
