In recent years, both online and land bingo operators have been working hard to change the game’s image. While the stereotype of bingo being a game for retirees persists, the truth is that an ever-increasing number of young people are getting involved. Whether they are attending one of the many hybrid bingo events taking place across the UK or playing online, it is clear that the game is still as appealing as ever.

Recently, Tombola, which claims to be Britain’s one of the biggest online bingo sites, has upped its efforts to transform the game’s image with a brand new marketing campaign, Open For Fun. The new Tombola bingo advert marks the first collaboration between the brand and its agency partner Meanwhile, founded in 2022 by former BBC Creative Directors Tim Jones and James Cross, along with Chapter MD Alastair Marchant.

The two-minute advert takes a very different tone to previous Tombola adverts. It is based upon an original composition written by The Midnight Beast, a comedy music group that is best known for its YouTube parody cover of Ke$ha’s classic track TikTok.

From the Ordinary to the Bizarre

The advert stars the stand-up comedian Jo Griffin and highlights the everyday moments of inactivity that could be filled and enhanced by playing bingo. It starts out with perfectly ordinary scenarios, such as waiting at the bus stop or at the dentist, then moves on to having a break when building flatpack furniture or in between reps at the gym.

As the advert progresses, the scenarios become increasingly unlikely and even a bit surreal, such as being stuck on a plane on the runway, being stuck inside because of the rain on holiday, going through a car wash, waiting for food to cook in the microwave, when having a tattoo done, and when posing for a portrait.

The music then continues with a ‘clap solo’ and the advert shows the various characters taking a break to clap along to the music, which neatly harnesses the trend of brands hijacking music videos for advertising purposes. Finally, it ends with the woman who has been playing at the bus stop celebrating her £11 win and the site’s slogan, ‘Open For Fun’.

An Impressive Collection of Games

Those who take Tombola’s new advert advice and head to the bingo hall to play will find a truly impressive collection of games to enjoy. There are regular 90, 80, 75, 60, 50, 40, and 30 ball bingo games, as well as themed games such as Deal or No Deal Bingo. There is also a section of games with a twist, which includes titles such as Word Search Bingo, Reel Bingo, Picture Bingo, and Bingo Roulette.

Tombola is welcoming new members with a 100% first deposit bonus of up to £50, and members can then enjoy several additional promotions offering bonus money, free tickets, special guaranteed prize pools, and more.

The site also places a big emphasis on community and the chat rooms in the bingo games are always very lively. There are often chat room games and regular players at the site will quickly start to recognise one another.

According to its homepage, Tombola claims that a player wins on the site every five seconds on average, and considering the operator also has dedicated mobile apps and offers customer support around the clock via telephone and live chat, its slogan of “Open For Fun” certainly seems to be true.

Whether or not you are interested in playing at Tombola, keep your eyes peeled for its new advertising campaign. Its quirky bingo-themed humour is sure to bring a smile to the face of any fan.
