With its abundance of dramatic and beautiful landscapes, it is no surprise that Scotland has become a popular destination for the film industry. In recent years, various locations in Scotland have been used in several films, including action films, dramas, horror films and superhero thrillers.

A side effect of this is the presence of celebrities visiting the country and taking in the sights when they are not performing for the cameras, and it turns out that not only do they visit Scotland’s famous landmarks, but some movie stars enjoy the Bongo’s bingo events.

Partying with Samuel L. Jackson in Glasgow

One such celebrity to enjoy a bingo night is Samuel L. Jackson, who, back in April 2023, was spotted enjoying himself at a Bongo Bingo night held at Glasgow’s SWG3 venue. Jackson was in town while filming the crime thriller Damaged, in which he plays a Chicago detective who teams up with a policeman in Scotland.

Clearly, rather than visit some of the city’s more traditional tourist attractions, such as the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, the Botanic Gardens, or the Riverside Museum, Jackson was drawn to a more energetic kind of entertainment. He opted for Bongo Bingo’s “crazy mix of traditional bingo, dance-offs, rave intervals, audience participation and countless magical moments.”

We have introduced you to the 21st-century vision of the bingo game by Bongo’s Bingo founder, Jonny Lacey.

It didn’t take long for others at the event to spot the Hollywood star and videos posted online afterwards show him laughing at the stage while filming one of the drag queens. He was later seen backstage posing for pictures with the performers and staff.

Staff and Crowd Thrilled at Surprise

Clearly, his presence was a thrill for all, with Bongo Bingo’s founder captioning the video, “Good to have @samuelljackson fly over for the @bongosbingo Glasgow show.”

Fans were left astonished, with one person writing, “If it wasn’t filmed, you wouldn’t believe it,” and another adding, “Samuel L. Jackson at Bongo’s Bingo in Scotland. What even?”

You can see from the video below the party atmosphere and the actor’s excitement to participate in the event:

The host of the evening, Ste Taylor, said that he had no idea that Jackson was going to make an appearance:

“Nobody knew he was going to be there. Nobody who works at Bongo’s Bingo knew, none of the venue staff at SWG3 knew. It was still halfway through the night, in the middle of a game of bingo, and I look over to the right and he’s just there on stage dancing, enjoying himself, taking a few videos, and taking in the crowd. I did a double-take thinking ‘is that Samuel L. Jackson?’, because he was kind of side on to me at the time facing the crowd. But as he turned, I thought ‘Oh my god, that actually is him’ and I was trying to get the dancer’s attention in front of me to say that Samuel L. Jackson was on stage with us.”

While in Scotland, the Pulp Fiction star also teamed up with two charities and signed a Rangers FC shirt to be raffled off, with proceeds going to the Emmie Smillie Charity Foundation and South Lanarkshire’s Kilbryde Hospice. He was also spotted enjoying dinner with friends, including the actor Gianni Capaldi, at the Amber Regent, a popular Chinese restaurant in the city centre.

Many More Glasgow Events

While celebrity appearances cannot be guaranteed, there are plenty of Bongo’s bingo events coming up in Glasgow. There are tickets currently available for four dates in May and eight in June. Even without the presence of Hollywood stars, they promise to be unforgettable occasions with plenty more dancing, drag queens, singalongs and top prizes. Furthermore, you have no chance of spotting a celebrity playing online bingo, and there are a number of TV dramas due to be filmed in Glasgow over the coming weeks and months, so who knows, there is the chance of more famous faces appearing at Bongo’s Bingo.
